Gen Con Scheduled to Emerge from Chapter 11!

Gen Con LLC announced yesterday that the US Bankruptcy Court of Western Washington has confirmed the company’s plan of reorganization and approved the company’s rejection of a hostile takeover bid.

“This is bright day for us”, said Adrian Swartout, CEO of Gen Con. “The entire team is looking forward to 2009 and continuing our growth as a stronger, more focused company. Our emergence from Chapter 11 is a testament to the skill and perseverance of our employees and the strength of the phenomenal Gen Con brand. Everyone here is excited to begin working outside of Chapter 11.”

Since filing for bankruptcy protection in February of 2008, Gen Con has significantly reduced its expenses and increased its cash position. The company’s cash flow is positive and prospects have never looked better. Under the confirmed plan, Gen Con will pay all of it creditors in full over time and will continue to operate. A three-member Advisory Committee will assist the company and its board, and Peter Adkison will retain ownership. “This is an extremely successful case,” said Shelly Crocker of Crocker Kuno, Gen Con’s bankruptcy attorney, “largely due to the efforts of Ms. Swartout and her team, and the cooperation of the Creditors’ Committee.”

Gen Con Indy 2009 will prove to be one of the best shows yet with thousands of events and hundreds of exhibitors. Gen Con attendees can expect to see all of their favorite programs such as the Costume Contest, Auction, Art Show, Family Fun Pavilion, eGame Arena and much more!

Event Submission

Event submission begins early this year, but the opening date has been pushed back slightly as we work on finishing a new system and some last-minute features: event submission for Gen Con Indy 2009 will begin at noon Pacific Time on January 21st, 2009.

Events will be submitted using a new online form (though it will be very similar – and familiar – to the form used last year). You will need to sign up for a new account and authenticate your email address, so please make sure to include time for that when planning to submit your events.

More detail on changes to the submission form will be announced shortly, but the submission process will remain the same.

Specifically, events will be reviewed and placed in several cycles (again, just like last year):

Event Submission Begins

January 14

Event Review Cycle I

Jan 14 - Jan 30

Event Review Cycle II

Jan 31 - Feb 13

Event Review Cycle III

Feb 14 - March 20

Event Submission Ends

March 20

All events from one cycle are placed before events in any following cycles (cycle 1 before 2 or 3, cycle 2 before 3, cycle 3 last), so if you want the best placement and to confirm your location well in advance, submit your events early.

The revised Event Host Policy has also been released for 2009, and by submitting an event for Gen Con you attest that you have read it and agree to abide by it. Please make sure that you have familiarized yourself with the rules governing your event.

If you have any questions or run into any problems during event submission, do not hesitate to contact the Events department. If you have an event idea that doesn't seem to fit the form, send us a message explaining what you want to do. You can also visit the GM forum on our web site to ask questions and keep up with event announcements.

Remember: it’s always better to ask questions before you submit your events than find an unexpected problem down the road.

Gen Con will run from August 13-16 this year.
