Right on schedule, Activision announced on Monday Rome: Total War (preview) had gone gold and was in the process of being prepared for retail distribution across North America and Europe. Developed by UK-based Creative Assembly, Rome: Total War is the follow-up to Shogun: Total War (review) and Medieval: Total War (review), depicting the historic battles of the Roman Republic and Empire throughout Europe. Players take the role of generals directing their troops in real-time battle, complete with historically authentic garb, weaponry, and battlefield tactics.
