Matrix Games today announced that their re-release project for the classic space strategy game, Reach For The Stars, is now gold. Matrix Games and SSG Re-release Classic Space Strategy Game for 2005!
Matrix Games announced today that their project to re-release SSG's classic space strategy title, Reach for the Stars, has gone gold. Expected to be for sale via online download from the Matrix site this week, the updated version of Reach for the Stars is based on the 2000 release, which, to complicate things further, is based loosely on the vintage DOS game Master of the Orion. Matrix Games assures players that the re-release of RFTS will contain ample bug fixes and enhancements to stabilize a somewhat flimsy game. The original Reach for the Stars is known to have been an innovator in 4x Space Strategy games, a strategy that refers to the four activities the player performs: Explore, Expand, Exploit, and Exterminate.
Matrix Games summarizes the game in a nutshell:
In Reach for the Stars there are fifteen races, each with specific advantages and disadvantages, and you must lead yours to victory by conquering and researching. You can, for instance, take the Combine race and use superior weapons and military equipment to your advantage, or the powerhouse economy of the LsLs. As you grow and research new buildings and ships become available to you, which will help you conquer new worlds and new enemies. For more information, check the main Matrix Games page and the SSG website.
